Hello to MagAmp Nr.3: In this video I use the nice sounding Marshall MS-2 as a pre-amplifier to the Magnetic Amplifier input. The output of the MS-2 on the left has a headphone connector. I did some modifications to the MagAmp circuit and adapted the input to the headphone impedance. The headphone signal coming from MS-2 will be amplified and shaped by the MagAmp bofore it goes to the 1x12 cabinet. The source of the noise comes from a HSS Strat. The overdrive in the MS-2 (that works with a 9V battery) feels really good but it needs sometimes more drive to sound full and breezy.

I thought I would do a quick video on magnetic amplifiers due to the lack of information available on the internet. Saturable reactors and magnetic amplifiers were used as early as 1885, through to roughly the mid 1900's, where their use declined rapidly. Since then, the magnetic amplifier has become all-but-forgotten - lost technology. I'm just doing my bit to keep everyone aware of their options when designing circuits.. Magnetic amplifiers have many uses including amplification, switching and controlling. For a thorough understanding of magnetic amplifiers, I would suggest to start with a book which was written by Paul Mali and published in 1960 - 'Magnetic Amplifiers - Principles And Applications'.

A little demonstration of a self built Magnetic Amplifier (MagAmp) for audio and guitar signals. That type of circuit works as a power output stage and contains a low impedance input. A standard microphone or guitar output signal will not work directly as an input signal. In that video low impedance sources like another speaker or power amplifier output will be used. The saturable reactor has two stacked cores with a control winding and two load windings. The output impedance is compatible with standard 4 or 8 Ohm speakers. The power supply for the MagAmp is a high frequency source (more then 40 kHz) and will be used to modulate the audio signal. The goal will not be necessarily to amplify an already loud (amplified) signal but to generate some new sound shapes. The volume settings on the used tube amplifier (acts as a pre-amp) are very low. The sound shaping brings some new interesting effects like including harmonics, more bass and a little of reverb in conjunction with an electric guitar.

Using modulation to fluctuate the modified MagAmp core's saturation density, and providing means of audible visualization we can "hear" what's going on inside. It uses typical 60Hz line noise as the "carrier frequency", and an ELF range signal generator influences the reflection cores' control windings. (the initial few attempts were to demonstrate this state of low hum/ringing being caused to ramp up, almost in a magnetic-avalanche like effect. and then how varying the rheostat's setting can dampen the modulation intensity) Additionally, adding a 40W bulb to self-dampen the reflection cores, allows suppression of the initial reaction, as well as promotes sharp ramp-up periods in the inner tank where the "audioscope" is connected. The tall waveguide spindle allows a 5th harmonic of vibration to resonate from the top dome. Varying the beat frequency, allows vertical lengthening of the compressional wave nodes and dictates the height at which the dome must be suspended to vibrate in free self-oscillation.. It's funny how sound is no different than electricity. :)

The rotor of any pulse motor is external and is the reaction of the pulsing magnetic field without consuming anything extra. The magnetic field contains most of the energy that comes from the power supply. Because some of the energy is returned back to the power supply, the actual power consumption is lowered. So the magnetic field and the reacting rotor both together have more power in them than the actual total consumption. Here is the schematic for this exact setup : 🤍 In other words the power contained in the magnetic field during it's ON time is near equivalent to the input power ONLY. BUT, because energy is returning back, then this automatically makes the magnetic field contain more energy than what is being consumed as well as any work done. REMEMBER, the frictional losses including air resistance and mostly bearing friction is the actual work load taking energy AWAY from the rotor as observed on the input meter on the positive side. This is more power and energy BEFORE the energy is returned back. Simple. AFTER the energy is returned the magnetic field is auto-intensified. Please leave any questions or comments down below.

Welcome to another video of the MagAmp: the "Push-pull Magnetic Amplifier". In this episode I like to demonstrate again the tone differences between the tube amplifier output and the MagAmp output. The demonstrator consists of three assemblies: 1. Push-pull Magnetic Amplifier with four saturable cores 2. Volume settings: Selectable switch and resistors 3. Power section VAC for the MagAmp supply In order to get more volume or output power the push-pull configuration uses four saturable reactors and a center tap power supply transformer. The output signal will be picked from an output transformer on the primary side what is unusual but the tone results appeared well. Compared to the basic circuit of the MagAmp the push-pull MagAmp provides more volume, clarity and bass. By using the electric guitar (see picture: Signal Chain) the MagAmp will be pushed more to saturation and provides rich harmonics and reverb - what is kind of nice to me. The Magamp acts as an effect pedal after the tube amp before the signal goes to the speaker. The MagAmp has a low impedance input and cannot be directly driven by the guitar or microphone. So the tube amp acts like a preamp with a low output level.
Just another odd discovery. I would have thought that the powerful PM would have biased the magnetic field being produced by the primary coil,as the P/in is very small. I also thought that the core would be saturated,and the P/out from the secondary would have dropped to almost nothing. But it seems that the opposite happened in both cases.

Magnetic Amplifier Generator IV: MAG AMP GEN IV Shown are various MAGNETIC AMPLIFICATION GENERATORS built to test various parameters of size, cost, and performance. a) The 3-ring of coils with a brushless 90v DC-motor driving it (input 28v) - conclusion: too much power used by large drive motor; Flywheel effect at as low as 300r/p/m's. b) Four rings of coils driven by 3-phase DC 12v pump motor. Originally 2-coil sets. MAG AMP GEN I, & II show these in operation & discuss results. (This was very fruitful proto test sequence: notably, I could vary R/P/M's by using three different outputs from motor, resulting in design improvements, surplus energy produced and resolution of fly-wheel problems.) c) Five rings of coils condensed in size & driven by small 5000r/p/m (freewheeling) 12v DC brushless 7-pole motor. Subject of MAG AMP GEN III video. Surprisingly high voltage output (too high!) & fast (1000+) R/P/M's. d) Untested 6-coil rings, similar to "c)" , expected to slow R/P/M's & thus lower voltage output somewhat. e) Test shown of 6-coil ring type, but with no.28 rather than no.30 wire with 300 turns/per/coil, instead of 400. Expected to lower voltage outputs still more: initial test with battery initially at 10.92v gave an average coil reading of 30v (high 32.6v, low 28.2v). This test used somewhat higher initial voltage with results you have seen! Projected MAG AMP GEN V: mixing ALL coil sets of "c)", "d)", & "e)" to power 500w 36v magnetic drive from GoldenMotor.com. Note, this will be the same Drive that powered Solar-Vees in previous videos at speeds up to 35km/p/h. Later projected projects: Ramp up power output & do road tests up to 100km/p/h (70m/p/h). Time frame 18 months. Oh - & f) First 4 coil-ring attempt at Air Turbine supplement for 50 km/p/h plus vehicle speeds. Blades are too few & too small, it gave only 1.5v with 20m/p/h simulation fan. Improvments to follow. - All I am doing here is similar to what was done a century ago with Hydro-power Turbines. At first there was only one set of blades (& magnets & coils). Fuel Free Mag Amp Gen W1 http://BioMod/multiply.com 🤍 Purpose: To demonstrate on-board generators powering a 500w mag-drive wheel of 36v rating. Result: Success! The Generators: Three of approx. 3 amp output max. Features: Each 3-phase AC with full-wave rectifyers on each ring to output DC. Each powered by small 12v 5000rpm max motor, powered in turn by 12v 7.5amp/hr sealed lead batteries, sometimes supplemented by 100MAH simulating small solar roof panels. Special problem: In spite of the non-resistance of air-core coils, it was found that "back-pressure" from either direct loads (Tunsten Lights), or charging batteries, caused axle slow-down and DC-motor heat-up, as well as lowered voltage output. Our conclusion was that there are THREE, not TWO, charging types - we dubbed: 1) "Hard" - your ordinary wall plug-in charger, a rectified-output transformed around a laminated steel core driven by 120volts AC. 2) "Soft" - Direct input solar panel charging such as we used on many "Vee's" we built and tested, which charged all types of batteries, and could carry higher voltages and amperages than "hard" charging, without damaging batteries. 3) "super-soft" - the present on-board generators, which cannot directly charge batteries, but can charge CAPACITORS, which in turn can power the Wheel-Drive, or (we presume and will later test) charge batteries FROM THE CAPACITORS! Special features: On-line 3 amp diodes placed past initial capacitor(s). 1.5 Farads total capacity shown in test. The goal: To introduce universal Fuel Free Transport in a time parallel with Fuel Free, Housing, factories, agriculture, and all businesses. Reason: Point-of-use power generation is the only possible sustainable method for economic security, ecological integrity, and wide-spread prosperity in future planet development. Reason explained: Resource fuel extraction and delivery has become too expensive and undependable, causing wide-spread suffering and death, in spite of all relief efforts, stock-piling, and budgeting. Added to this is the extreme vunerability of long extended networks of physical connectedness - this includes electric grids as well as pipe-lines, tankers, and the like. Attempts at central control and domination of such networks has become increasingly difficult and intermitant and is rapidly failing due to both human and natural threats and disruptions. Conclusion: This demonstration shows for the first time publically (that we know of) the practicality of Fuel Free Transport. All elements shown can be improved on and enlarged to encompass all non-human or animal powered transport, thus initiating a revolution in planetary power technology. In a sense this Fuel Free, point of production = point of use, revolution merely generalizes the universality of solid-state electronics which already totally dominates the lighter energy sector of communications on the planet and in the human explored solar system generally.

Gas "Cars": 1900 - hand cranked ; 1920 - electric starter; 1960 - electric guages; 1990 - computer adjustments & checks; 2010 - Fuel Free Electronic powered "Car" w/ ambient energy input(s) (Solar/Vibrational/Air Turbine) - The main change in this video demonstration, is a set of Li-ion Batteries mounted on a parallel circuit to the Wh1 Generator/Capacitor circuit. The advantage is that the batteries are recharged FROM THE GENERATOR/CAPACITORS at the end of each drive. This allows fewer generators and fewer batteries and eliminates the need for outside grid recharging. The self-sustaining Electronic vehicle is only possible because energy needs are reduced by two orders of magnitude: 1) Hub Mag-Drives need only 1/10 the input of fuel motors. 2) Mag Amplification Generators need only 1/10th electrical input to maintain their small electric motors. (Or if turned by Air Turbines no input at all.) Conservatively: Such vehicles need only 1/70th of the energy input of Fuel vehicles of equal performance, all of which can be obtained by energy impacting the vehicle itself when static or moving. The main operators guage will be Voltage Power Status, surrounding a speed dial. This is because with generators voltage can now go upward, not only downward as in today's "Electric-Battery" vehicles. Operator will be responsible for keeping it within a certain range - somewhat similar to fuel-gas racers RPM-meters, where too high a reading burns out engine, while too low results in stalling.

The guitar magnetic amplifier got now a black box to be used in a band context and make it more practical for use. In this video I took the device in a big room to check the loudness and of course the sound. The box has an integrated transistor PreAmp that allows go straight in with a guitar and then go to the MagAmp with a patch cable. The output of the MagAmp goes then to 1x12 cabinet. But the internal PreAmp must not be used necessarily – a low impedance signal can be fed in. The second variant brings more headroom and clearity.
